Kasteelspoort is a classic and scenic trail up the Twelve Apostles side of Table Mountain, offering a more tranquil alternative to the busy front-facing routes. It’s a great choice for hikers seeking panoramic ocean views, unique rock formations, and a deeper connection to the mountain’s wilder side.

The hike begins in Camps Bay at the top of Theresa Avenue. You’ll start on a jeep track and transition to the historic Pipe Track — named after the old water pipes running through the route. This section is gentle and lush with fynbos and proteas.
Once on the Kasteelspoort path, the gradient increases steadily. Expect stone steps, rocky terrain, and incredible views across the Atlantic. As you ascend, you’ll pass remnants of the old cableway station.
Before reaching the summit plateau, a short detour leads you to the iconic Diving Board rock — a dramatic ledge with panoramic ocean views. Great for photos!
