Why Join Our Lekker Community Hikes?

Pay-What-You-Can — contribute an amount that feels fair for you. These hikes are our way of helping people connect with nature and with each other, while recognising the time, care, and safety provided by our qualified guides. Your contribution helps keep this initiative going and supports our efforts to give back to the mountains we love.

Give Back to the Mountains — a portion of proceeds supports conservation initiatives and mountain-safety non-profits.

Weekly Hikes — we offer Lekker Community Hikes every week, mostly on weekends (Saturdays or Sundays), with the occasional weekday hike when weather and guide availability allow.

Easy to Moderate Trails — think Cecilia Forest, Pipe Track, Kloof Corner, and other accessible routes around Cape Town and greater Western Cape.

Space is Limited — hikes fill up quickly, so RSVP is essential.

How Our WhatsApp Hiking Group Works

We run a dedicated announcements group to keep things simple and spam-free:

  • All hike details are posted in the Announcements Group (no chatting).
  • Each hike has its own Sub-Group — join only if you’re interested
  • RSVP in the sub-group to secure your spot
  • Chat opens 24 hours before the hike for logistics and coordination.

Lekker Community Hikes — FAQs

How does this work?

Our community hikes are about more than summits — they create space to connect with nature and with each other. The Pay-What-You-Can model lets anyone join while we still run a safe, guided experience.

They’re also a great way to meet new people and become part of a lekker community.

Yes. There’s no fixed price. Please reflect on the guidance, time, planning, and safety we provide, and contribute what feels fair for you and your current circumstances. Some give more, some give less — over time, it balances out.

To confirm your spot, payment is made at the time of RSVP. You’ll complete a short sign-up form and pay via a secure link we provide. This helps us manage numbers, logistics, and safety for everyone.

Your contribution covers the real costs of each hike — guide time, planning, safety, admin, and logistics — and helps keep the model sustainable for others who might not otherwise join.

A portion of proceeds is donated to causes we care about, including mountain rescue, conservation, trail maintenance, and animal welfare.

Weekly. Most hikes run on weekends (Saturdays or Sundays), with occasional weekday options depending on weather and guide availability.

We announce upcoming hikes weekly, usually on Monday or Tuesday for the week ahead. Please join via the sign-up button at the top of this page to be added to our announcements list.

Often, yes. We’ll suggest a casual post-hike social (coffee or a quick bite) to keep the conversation going and encourage connection.

That’s okay — contribute what you can and come as you are. The Pay-What-You-Can approach is trust-based; when some are able to give more, it helps keep the door open for everyone

Yes, absolutely. Gratuities are never expected but always appreciated.

Community hikes run on set dates and don’t follow individual schedules. If you’d like something tailored, we offer fixed-fee private and guided hikes (e.g., Lion’s Head, Platteklip Gorge, India Venster, Skeleton Gorge, Kasteelpoort, Tranquility Cracks, Crystal Pools, Krom River, Mont Rochelle, and more) with flexibility around route, timing, and pace.
